Bekal is a beautiful spot on the coast in the far north of Kerala with wonderful beaches and the best preserved fort in Kerala, constructed in 1650 it has has been important to defence of the region throughout the centuries. Tipu Sultan used Bekal fort as his headquarters when he led the great military force to capture the Malabar. This is a popular film location for many movies.
The beach has been well developed with sculptures, rock gardens and a children’s play area, trees have been planted and walkways laid.
There are toilet facilities for visitors, and eco friendly waste bins help to keep the area clean. The beach is floodlit at evening, which enhances the beauty and allows people to stay and relax for longer.
